Heatwave

Think of yummy drinks, ice creams and ice cold lemon tea during this fantastic weather. LOL !! Seriously, feel like dying (x________x) in this warm and super hot weather. I wonder how people are surviving with less water and food in Africa and India. Needless to say, we are suffering from this heat wave because of our generous contribution towards global warming.

Iced Lemon Tea

Not only its warm and all, now I have mouth ulcer which is killing me like hell. So, as usual when I get any sick I will do whatever it takes to cure it. I found few remedies for mouth ulcer, one of it that works for me was the holy basil leaves (check my previous post for detail on holy basil). Chew the leaves and drink it with water. Do these for at least 5 to 6 times per day.

Another thing you can do is to try drink cooling type drinks. For example ice lemon tea, young coconut, pudding and yogurt drinks. Basic 8 glass water per day is very important rule to follow. For this heat season, I share mango sorbet recipe which turns out to be yummy one (You do not need ice cream maker for this).

Mango Sorbet

  • 3 ripe mangoes
  • 200gm icing sugar
  • 1 ½ lemon (juice only)

Method:
Slice the mangoes into chunks then add in the icing sugar, lemon juice and mangoes to food processor. Blend to puree. Freeze it for 2 hours. And then take it out, toss into the food processor again and blend it again. Make sure this time it is really blended. And freeze it overnight. Whola.. enjoy the mango sorbet.

*peace out*

Saturday Night Fever!

My title may sound fun but the truth is I had a bad cold fever last Saturday. Sneezing, running nose and killer sore throat is more to annoying kind of sick rather than painful. I am the type who does not like to go consult a doctor. I will try to cure all by myself and be the doctor. Well I did. I got this influence from my grandma. Whenever we (my brother and I) are sick or hurt ourselves by doing some stunts, she’ll run to a small bush in front her house and grab some leaves and start to do medicine from it. I have got to say it really works actually. It was some of the home remedies that her mother taught her and people from those days used before panadols (bad for health actually) and antibiotics were created to fight the virus. They say that you can’t cure flu and it will go away on its own but you can do something to reduce it though. Here are some successful homes remedies that made me fever free.

I will definitely start with helpful home remedies for annoying sore throats because sore throats always shows the early sign of getting fever. You can use cinnamon (I use this method) to cure it.

  • What you have to do is take a teaspoon of cinnamon powder , pinch of pepper, one table spoon of honey and glass of water. Boiled it together and drink it. Actually the drink taste pretty good. This is for an early stage of sore throat.

  • Let say that remedy did not really helped you then you can try the second remedy for sore throat which is add all together lime juice, pinch of pepper and tablespoon of honey.
  • I have never tried this but some other elders say that holy basil leaves (Indians call it ‘thulasi’) helps to relieve annoying sore throat. Boil water and few of the leaves and you can either drink it or gargle with it. Below is the picture of holy basil:-

Then there is cold fever and cough left, as for this you can use few methods as well. As for cough, I do not like to drink cough medicine because it makes you drowsy so usually I will rather cough than drinking ‘drug’ (ha-ha).
  • A very good way of healing cough is by boiling water with aniseed (some call starseed;below is the pic) and pour it in a teabag. And drink it while it’s hot. It taste just like cough syrup but the only thing is that it does not make you drowsy (or being drugged =P) and you feel relieved.

  • One of the oldest methods of healing flu is by drinking garlic soup. But usually my mum will just make an empty porridge with only few garlic cloves which also quite good. I read in an article saying that, garlic contains antiseptic which help to fight the virus. Ginger also another good remedy for flu as it act as brother for garlic.

As for me, whenever I get flu I will just try to eat more oranges which mean more vitamins C and it really helped. Be caution, not all can take oranges when they are having flu as for some people it might make the flu even worse. But as for me it’s all clear and quite good.
This is just some of the home remedies that I know and I used. There is a lot more available out there. Applying home remedies is better than taking pills (as in for me). I am not sure about others but you can give it a try no harm (unless you have any allergic to any of those spices)
