Saturday Night Fever!

My title may sound fun but the truth is I had a bad cold fever last Saturday. Sneezing, running nose and killer sore throat is more to annoying kind of sick rather than painful. I am the type who does not like to go consult a doctor. I will try to cure all by myself and be the doctor. Well I did. I got this influence from my grandma. Whenever we (my brother and I) are sick or hurt ourselves by doing some stunts, she’ll run to a small bush in front her house and grab some leaves and start to do medicine from it. I have got to say it really works actually. It was some of the home remedies that her mother taught her and people from those days used before panadols (bad for health actually) and antibiotics were created to fight the virus. They say that you can’t cure flu and it will go away on its own but you can do something to reduce it though. Here are some successful homes remedies that made me fever free.

I will definitely start with helpful home remedies for annoying sore throats because sore throats always shows the early sign of getting fever. You can use cinnamon (I use this method) to cure it.

  • What you have to do is take a teaspoon of cinnamon powder , pinch of pepper, one table spoon of honey and glass of water. Boiled it together and drink it. Actually the drink taste pretty good. This is for an early stage of sore throat.

  • Let say that remedy did not really helped you then you can try the second remedy for sore throat which is add all together lime juice, pinch of pepper and tablespoon of honey.
  • I have never tried this but some other elders say that holy basil leaves (Indians call it ‘thulasi’) helps to relieve annoying sore throat. Boil water and few of the leaves and you can either drink it or gargle with it. Below is the picture of holy basil:-

Then there is cold fever and cough left, as for this you can use few methods as well. As for cough, I do not like to drink cough medicine because it makes you drowsy so usually I will rather cough than drinking ‘drug’ (ha-ha).
  • A very good way of healing cough is by boiling water with aniseed (some call starseed;below is the pic) and pour it in a teabag. And drink it while it’s hot. It taste just like cough syrup but the only thing is that it does not make you drowsy (or being drugged =P) and you feel relieved.

  • One of the oldest methods of healing flu is by drinking garlic soup. But usually my mum will just make an empty porridge with only few garlic cloves which also quite good. I read in an article saying that, garlic contains antiseptic which help to fight the virus. Ginger also another good remedy for flu as it act as brother for garlic.

As for me, whenever I get flu I will just try to eat more oranges which mean more vitamins C and it really helped. Be caution, not all can take oranges when they are having flu as for some people it might make the flu even worse. But as for me it’s all clear and quite good.
This is just some of the home remedies that I know and I used. There is a lot more available out there. Applying home remedies is better than taking pills (as in for me). I am not sure about others but you can give it a try no harm (unless you have any allergic to any of those spices)

TV sequences!

You see I m currently jobless (not proud it but I will get one eventually) so most of the time I m free unless end of month I busy preparing some documents, other than that I free. So, how I fill my free time? TV series will be the answer. Even when I was in studying, well I got to say UTP’s download is heaven (goshh I miss it!!!) I downloaded TV series, movies and songs like crazy. B the W, few weeks back I went to UTP again to download (ha-ha).
So if you curious which TV series I m in, well here is the list (since I m free I’ll write some review too..lol):-
  • America’s Next Top Model

This would be one of my over-the-top favorite shows. I’m a fan of the show since season 1 and sad to say that all my favorite’s never actually won. But if I have to pick favorite winner will be Naima (cycle 4), CariDee (cycle 7) and Jaslene (cycle 8) only. For this cycle,London was my favorite and now she is out. So for favorite non-winner will be Joanie (the best), Sam, Chantal, Anya, Katarzyna (second the best), Janet. Currently season 12 is airing, got to say is the same old thing but the girls are not so interesting. I like Jessica but she got booted out second. Celia & Fo has great picture. The rest so-so la except for Sandra & Thalia (serve you right biatch). Allison with her big scary eyes and her freak attitude (is funny though ... lol). I don’t care who wins this cycle, the girls do not really excite me.
  • Privileged

Well, I don’t know why they are on break now. The last episode was 18 and they stopped and I really hope they would not stop it forever as same as lipstick jungle (which I also watch and it’s gone forever after two seasons only.) I like the both of the show though lots of people not really tuning to see it. I want to see (badly) how WILL will react to Megan’s new ‘one night stand’ (which I think will be in the show quite some time) partner (ha-ha).
  • Heroes

The hunting is still on. I do not where season 3 will end to but I m just watching somehow. They discovering lot’s of new powers. I try not reading the spoiler. Lol!
  • Supernatural

Interesting as ever (mostly because of Dean). Well nothing spooky about it but I’m kind of interested with Sam’s power mystery and the angel hunk deal with dean. I will just tune in. If they kill Dean again then I’ll kill the show.
  • How I met your Mother

The best comedy show I have seen, Barney is simply the best. Seriously, I love him. The show would just die without him! But I do not know until which season where Ted will finally meet his wife and mother of his kid. LOL. I m predicting it will Robin (ke-ke) though he refer her as aunt robin to his kids.
  • Chuck

This show is the same producer as The O.C but he did much better in chuck. This is show is funny and interesting though chuck is annoying but you should watch his spy skills. And season 2 is kind of getting interesting as he finally found his dad and also found ORION (the guy who created intersect at the first place).
  • Dollhouse

This is a new show that I m tuning in. Nice one. It is about this girl who is brought to a dollhouse where they delete all her memories and program here to whoever the client (they prefer call them engagement) wants. Well there is some kind of cops who trying find out about this house. Will see where the show is going.
  • Ugly Betty

Season 3 is a so-so one. Bit boring and I do not know when the hell she going transform at least a bit. I used grumble when I was watching the Spanish version la soy Betty la fea. But I think US version is even worst and taking forever for her to change. Guess just have to wait.

  • Gossip Girl

Yes, I m still watching it to pass my time even though is super frustrating to watch all the spoil brats drinking champagne when they claim themselves as ‘high school’ and happily sleeping with each other.
  • 90210
Same goes as GG but slightly better cause of Silver (bit lively). The rest I just hate esp. annie, she is just overreacting. If you wondering why I m still tuning in. Obviously is because of Liam (Matt Lanter), Naomi’s new crush. Haha~

Samantha Who, Criminal Minds, CSI, Lipstick Jungle, Grey’s Anatomy, Brothers&Sisters, House are some of other TV series that I watch. I thought joining the critics for the show, too bad I do not have a qualified degree. =P

Going Green ~

28th March 2009 was the remark of our responsibility to save our tiny part of the world by switching off lights in our homes for an hour. Well, I did my part for half an hour (not going to lie) but at least I did something. I had to switch it on back as my mum was shouting (ha-ha) fearing of thieves nowadays (can’t really blame her it’s getting worse near my residence area). But what I see is that most the people do not really care about it and it’s sad. You do not have to do something big or drastic but just start small and simple things by switching off the lights. Or you can do big just as what like what Leonardo D’caprio (etc buying Hybrid cars and doing documentary) did if you have all the ka-ching and fame. I really admire him for that. I used to not bother or care about it but the environmental changes and all the weird sickness had really wake me up from a deep hell.

Think how much we contribute to global warming without realizing (or by ignoring it). Ok let’s do some simple test:
  • How often do you clean your fan?
  • How many times have you done gardening?
  • Have you ever planted a tree in a year?
  • How many plastic do you use a day?
  • How many times have you recycled your garbage?
  • How long does you a/c will be on?

Honestly, it’s not like I’m doing all these above things. But I did most of it. I clean my fans often and I do not on a/c. Fans blade that covered in dirt and dust require more power to spin. I rarely do gardening but I do plant tree if I have more space and will go up against if someone wants to cut down a tree. You can see greedy contractors eating up the entire hill to build houses. I think it would good if they replant each and every tree that they have chopped down.
What I am really trying to convey here is that, we can start from doing small and simple things in saving our world. It still counts. People do not seem to understand this. Like the other day, when I was explaining to “some people” on energy saving and turning off the light. They did not even bother about it. Why can’t people understand that by doing this is actually not for others sake but it is for themselves? Anyway we still have some time left to make a difference. I will do my part and I hope other will to. Below is some interesting tactics that I do and maybe you can try it as well.

Do you know that the sprays that we used to clean windows contain chemicals which are washed down to drain and pollute our water? Well there is a way you can undo this by using the old newspapers to wipe the mirror and windows. Newspaper ink absorbs dirt and shines glass without harming the environment.

I do not know if you have realized toilet-cleaners use this brown color multi-purpose cleaner to wash bathrooms. As for me, I have seen cleaners from my university hostel used to use this to clean. The multi-purpose cleaner is not a chemical product instead it is all-natural, environment-friendly, non-toxic and best of it is made from kitchen scrap. I actually discovered this from an article published in The Star and way to go, it is good.
Well, it is called Garbage Enzyme and guess what you can do it on your own. Here are the tips (all thanks to the article):-
  • Use ratio of 1:3:10 of sugar, vegetable/fruits dregs (residue) and water.
  • For example: -
    1 kg of sugar,
3 kg of vegetable/fruits dregs and
    10 liters water.
  • For sugar component, use jaggery (gula merah) or molasses.
  • For fresh-smelling enzymes add oranges or lemon peels or pandan leaves.
  • Fruits wastes are better than vegetables.
  • Use an air-tight plastic container to allow for expansion. Do not use glass or metal containers.
  • Place the container in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Open the container daily in the first month to release gasses.
  • If you have not gathered enough kitchen waste, you may fill the container gradually.
  • The 3 month fermentation process starts with the last batch of kitchen waste. Push the floating garbage downward every once in awhile.
  • The enzyme liquid should be in dark brown color. If it is blackish, add the same amount of sugar to start the fermentation process again.
  • Ignore any white, black or brown layer that forms on the surface of the mixture. This is just yeast. If the container is not airtight, maggot and flies may appear. (not nice)
  • After 3 months, filter the fermented liquid through an old t-shirts or sieve. Use the residues in your new batch of enzymes or as fertilizer.
  • Here the best part, the enzyme never expire and must be diluted with water before using it. What a cheap and effective way!
This garbage enzyme sure does good things as it can help your plant to bloom, remove all the dirt from floor, kitchen toilets and the enzyme can help you to clean drainage pipes which will reduce smelliness ,flies and dirty b**** cockroaches. (Hate ‘em a lot esp. the flying ones.) And best of all, we are not contributing chemical to our rivers. See you can contribute something at the same time benefits you.

IT’S TIME TO ACT. DO SOMETHING FOR YOURSELF AND FOR OUR COMING GENERATIONS.
